Pilomax Tablet 10

Pilomax Tablet is used to manage dry mouth symptoms caused by reduced saliva production, particularly in patients who have undergone radiation treatment for head and neck cancer or who have Sjögren's syndrome, helping ease discomfort while eating and speaking.

Uses of Pilomax Tablet are:

• Radiation-Induced Dry Mouth: Increases saliva production in people treated with radiation for head and neck cancer.
• Sjögren's Syndrome: Helps relieve dry mouth symptoms caused by this autoimmune condition.

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Always follow your doctor's instructions and do not exceed the prescribed dose.

• In case you're unsure about anything, it is advised to consult your doctor.

Pilomax Tablet is taken orally.

Pilomax Tablet contains pilocarpine (5 mg), which exerts its effects on the body as follows:

• Stimulates Muscarinic Receptors: Pilocarpine works by selectively stimulating muscarinic receptors, specifically M3 receptors, in the salivary glands. In simpler terms, it binds to these receptors and activates them, much like a key fitting into a lock.

• Increases Saliva Production: Once the muscarinic receptors are activated, they trigger the salivary glands to produce and release more saliva. This results in a noticeable increase in saliva flow, thereby relieving the symptoms of dry mouth.

• Stimulates Smooth Muscle Contraction: Pilocarpine is also known to stimulate the contraction of smooth muscles. These are the muscles that you can't control consciously, such as those in your digestive system and blood vessels. This action, however, is considered a secondary effect and is less prominent than the increase in saliva production.

• Store Pilomax Tablet at room temperature, ideally between 20°C to 25°C.

• Keep it in a tightly closed container to protect it from moisture and light.

• Always keep the medicine out of reach of children.

• Ensure you use the medicine before its expiry date.

• If you are taking Pilomax Tablet, maintain a healthy hydration level. Since the medicine can cause increased sweating, drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

• Incorporate saliva-stimulating foods in your diet. Chewing sugar-free gum or eating citrus fruits can help stimulate salivary flow and manage dry mouth symptoms.
