PTU Tablet is used to manage thyroid-related conditions, including Graves' disease (an autoimmune disorder leading to hyperthyroidism), toxic multinodular goitre (multiple lumps in the thyroid causing overactivity), and thyroid storm (a severe, life-threatening form of hyperthyroidism). It helps control excessive thyroid hormone production and regulate thyroid function.

To use PTU Tablet correctly, follow these guidelines:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Avoid crushing, breaking or chewing the tablet.

• Do not exceed the advised dosage without consulting your doctor.

• It's crucial not to stop taking this medicine without speaking to your doctor first, even if you feel better.

• Always remember, every medication works best when taken as directed by your doctor.

PTU Tablet is taken orally.

PTU Tablet contains propylthiouracil (50 mg) and works in the following ways:

• Blocking Thyroid Peroxidase: Propylthiouracil inhibits an enzyme called thyroid peroxidase which is crucial for the production of thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).

• Reducing Peripheral Conversion: Propylthiouracil also hinders the conversion of thyroxine (T4) to its more active form, triiodothyronine (T3), in the body's tissues.

• Store your PTU Tablet at room temperature, ideally between 15-25°C.

• Keep the medicine away from direct light and moisture.

• Make sure your PTU Tablet is kept out of reach of children.

• Always check the expiry date before taking your medicine.

• Suppose you are taking PTU Tablet to manage hyperthyroidism. In that case, try to consume a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. These nutrients are essential for bone health, as hyperthyroidism can sometimes lead to weak bones.

• Regular gentle exercise can also be beneficial. It can help improve your overall health and well-being and may also help manage symptoms of hyperthyroidism, such as anxiety and restlessness. However, don't overdo it - high-intensity workouts could stress your heart more if you have an overactive thyroid. Always consult your doctor before starting a new exercise routine.
