CompositionSeptran Paediatric Suspension is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including infections of the urinary tract, ears, chest, and gut. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria responsible for the infection, helping the child recover.
It contains trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole, two antibiotics that work together by blocking the production of folic acid, which bacteria need to grow and survive. Give it as prescribed, using the measuring cup provided, and complete the full course even if your child starts feeling better, to prevent the infection from returning and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine. As this antibiotic can occasionally cause increased sensitivity to sunlight, limit direct sun exposure and use appropriate protection during treatment.
Before giving this medicine, tell your doctor if your child has any known allergies, kidney or liver problems, or blood disorders. Inform your doctor if your child develops a skin rash, unusual bruising, sore throat, or persistent fever, as these may need prompt attention.
