Sucral Suspension is used to treat and prevent duodenal ulcers and manage symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It contains Sucralfate, which acts as a cytoprotective agent by forming a complex, paste-like barrier over the ulcer surface. This coating shields the sensitive ulcerated tissue from stomach acid, pepsin, and bile salts, creating an environment that facilitates faster healing and prevents the recurrence of the ulcer. It is also used to reduce gastric acidity in specific clinical settings to protect the stomach lining.
For the medication to work effectively, it should ideally be taken on an empty stomach, at least one hour before meals or as directed by your physician. Consistent dosing is essential to maintain the protective barrier over the ulcer site throughout the day. Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing kidney conditions, as this medication may contain aluminum which can accumulate in patients with renal impairment. To avoid interference with drug absorption, wait at least two hours between taking Sucralfate and any other oral medications.
