We all know that blood flows throughout our body for a lifetime and maintains seemingly endless functions. Whenever we get a cut or there is an injury that leads to blood leakage from the body part, in some time it forms a fibrous clot at the affected site, these are known as blood clots in the body and play a defensive role in reducing blood loss from our body in case of accidents or any injury.

Causes of blood clotting in the body

No wonder these blood clots are life-saving but what if there is no injury to us but still our body forms a clot of blood?

Blood flows throughout the body via veins and arteries which are very small in diameter and at times due to improper platelet formation blood gets deposited in the walls of these capillaries forming blood clots in the body which alters the way of blood and ultimately reduces the delivery of blood to the respective tissue and organ.

A failure in blood supply to the organs of the body leads to a situation called hypoxia that in turn damages the cells and leads to malfunctioning of the body part devoid of blood supply.

Unwanted clots can lead to life-threatening situations like stroke, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and other serious medical complications.

Blood clot symptoms

Now a question would strike your mind what are the signs of a blood clot and how do you know if are you prone to them or not!

Here are a few blood clots in body symptoms that we all can look after.

1) Blood clot symptoms in arms and legs

When clotting of blood takes place in the capillaries of legs and hands, it leads to improper delivery of blood to the respective site of the organ which is well noticed by a change in colour of the skin surface where there is a lack of delivery or blood.

Various symptoms associated with are:

-Swelling in the exact spot where blood coagulation has taken place

-You may feel warm skin when you touch the affected site.

-Skin colour changes from pale yellow to red or blue tinge.

-People often experience pain in the area where there is clot formation

2) Signs of a blood clot in the lungs

The formation of a blood clot in the lungs is called pulmonary embolism which is an extremely dangerous situation.

Don’t delay in seeking medical help if you experience any of the following discomforts-

  • Extreme coughing
  • Sweating
  • Feeling of dizziness
  • Experiencing pain in the chest
  • Shortness of breath

3) Blood clot symptoms in the brain

Blood clots in the brain are generally due to fatty deposition in the brain capillaries that deliver oxygenated blood to the brain.

Blood clot formation in the brain is associated with high-risk disorders like convulsions, stroke, epilepsy, and several other life-threatening situations.

Watch out for the following symptoms for determining clots associated with the brain-

  • Fatigue
  • Auditory and visual problems
  • Seizure

4)Signs of a blood clot in a kidney

Kidneys play the role of eliminating the waste material present in the body through urine formation, in case of blood clot development in any part of the kidney it leads to improper removal of waste material from the body.

This can in turn result in a rise in blood pressure accompanied by kidney failure in extreme cases.

Symptoms associated with clot development in the kidney include-

  • Fever
  • Swelling in legs
  • Vomiting
  • Pain in legs
  • Breathing complications
  • A rise in blood pressure
  • Presence of blood in the urine

How to prevent blood coagulation?

Food materials containing a high amount of fat, protein, and several inflammatory foods like- pastries, white blood, cookies, and refined flour must be avoided to prevent blood coagulation in the body.

Here are some amazing natural remedies for blood clot treatment that can be well tried in our homes.

1) Garlic

Cloves of Garlic are sulphur-containing compounds that have the capability to dissolve a blood clot.

It is advised to consume 1 stalk of raw garlic every morning for effective results. Garlic relaxes the smooth muscles of arteries and dilates them hence also beneficial to lower blood pressure and finds use in hypertension patients.

Apart from all this, Garlic is a well-known blood thinner and hence finds its place in blood clot treatment too.

2) Cayenne

Cayenne is a rich salicylate compound and is widely used as a natural blood thinner. ‘Capsaicin’ a principal garlic constituent prevents the clotting of blood by maintaining smooth blood circulation. It also clears away the lipid deposits in the walls of arteries and helps them to dilate hence clearing away the clots.

3) Turmeric

‘Curcumin’ active principle present in turmeric acts on platelets to prevent their deposition in the walls of arteries and capillaries. The medicinal properties of turmeric help in reducing the pain associated with these clots’ formation.

Turmeric is a well-known anti-thrombotic agent which plays a wide role in preventing the development of a clot in blood vessels.

4) Flaxseeds

These seeds are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids and help to improve blood circulation by preventing clot formation.

Flax seeds also play a role in reducing the hardening of the blood vessels hence are also useful in treating other vessel-related complications.

5) Arjun bark

Arjun in a can traditional language known as “Terminalia arjuna’’ is very effective in reducing blood clot symptoms as it is a natural blood thinner.

Soak arjuna bark in warm water and drink the water early morning regularly, this helps in the smooth functioning of the heart muscle hence maintaining proper contractility of the heart.

6) Keep the body hydrated

Dehydration can increase the viscosity of the blood, hence increasing blood thickness and in turn increasing the risk of clot development.

It is advised to increase your daily uptake of water and stay hydrated to avoid complications of blood clot formation and to maintain the smooth flow of the blood throughout the veins and capillaries of the body.
