How Mycophenolate Mofetil works
Mycophenolate Mofetil is an immunosuppressant medicine.
It works by inhibiting an enzyme known as inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH). This enzyme is crucial for the growth of T and B lymphocytes, which are types of white blood cells integral to your body's immune defence. By blocking IMPDH, Mycophenolate Mofetil suppresses the proliferation of these lymphocytes. This action weakens the immune response that might otherwise lead to organ transplant rejection. As a result, Mycophenolate Mofetil helps to manage the immune system and prevent it from rejecting transplanted organs.
