  • Genital Fungal Infection

How Empagliflozin + Linagliptin works

  • Empagliflozin functions as an inhibitor of SGLT2, the primary transporter responsible for reabsorbing glucose from the glomerular filtrate into the circulation. Its action involves the inhibition of SGLT2, leading to reduced renal reabsorption of filtered glucose and decreased renal threshold for glucose. Consequently, empagliflozin enhances urinary glucose excretion. Beyond its impact on glucose dynamics, it also diminishes sodium reabsorption, promoting increased delivery of sodium to the distal tubule. This modulation of sodium handling may exert various physiological effects, including the reduction of both pre- and afterload on the heart and the downregulation of sympathetic activity.
  • Linagliptin is an inhibitor of DPP-4, an enzyme that breaks down incretin hormones, namely glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Consequently, it elevates the concentrations of active incretin hormones, promoting insulin release in a glucose-dependent manner and reducing circulating glucagon levels. GLP-1 and GIP play vital roles in the physiological regulation of glucose homeostasis. Incretin hormones are continuously secreted at basal levels throughout the day, with levels surging immediately after a meal consumption. GLP-1 and GIP enhance insulin biosynthesis and secretion from pancreatic beta cells, particularly in the presence of normal and elevated blood glucose levels. Additionally, GLP-1 diminishes glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells, leading to a decrease in hepatic glucose output.
